New walks leaflets to launch at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre

With thanks to funding from the Shropshire Hills AONB Conservation Fund, MFG solicitors and Craven Arms Community Food Initiative Fund, Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre are refreshing their circular walks leaflets. Grow Cook Learn, local charity now running the visitor centre, has secured funding to increase their walks offer from four leaflets to six, including new routes and improving the existing ones.

It’s just a month to go until the 5th annual Cosford Food Festival takes place at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford and this year, organisers have lined-up popular TV Chef Marcus Bean to headline on the demo stage both days. Marcus will be showcasing his passion for great food at the event on 22-23 July which attracts in excess of 13,500 visitors.

The Queen Victoria Cyclocross Race, a unique off-road cycling event, will be held at Blists Hill Victorian Town, Shropshire on Saturday, 8th July. Sponsored by Ludgate Finance and broadcast on Sky TV/Virgin Bike Channel, it attracts over 300 riders from across the UK all competing over a course like no other.

Prees Heath Common Reserve Open Day

The former RAF control tower will be open from 10.00am to 4.00pm. The tower was conserved over 3 years ago with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Natural England and is an important historic building as well as a significant feature in the landscape. Two rooms will not be accessible due to the presence of bats.

Modellers gear up for flying weekend

The Large Model Aircraft Rally is returning to the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford next month for a weekend of spectacular flying displays. Taking place on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 July, this air show in miniature is set to entertain thousands of aviation and modelling enthusiasts with two full days of flying and family fun.

Museum aircraft join Air Show line-up

A collection of aircraft from the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford will be joining the line-up in a static display at the RAF Cosford Air Show, taking place on Sunday 11 June 2017. Aircraft confirmed to appear include the British Aerospace Experimental Aircraft Programme (EAP), the BAe Harrier GR9A and completing the Museum’s display at this year’s show is the Hawker Hurricane IIc.

Dipping pond in historic walled garden is exposed after 60 years

One of the two dipping ponds of Apley Walled Garden has been recently exposed ready for re-use, 60 years after it was last used. So called as gardeners would dip their watering cans into it, the pair of dipping ponds gradually fell out of use, as the watering relied increasingly on piped water.
